Hi, I'm Alessio, a PhD student in Economics at Stanford.
My research interests revolve around the state. How do public organizations complement, substitute for and interact with markets? How should they be organized? I have worked on how the discretionary space bureaucrats hold shapes discrimination and inequality. I like a hint of ML and structural analysis, and if time and effort allow, I'll be the annoying person asking what's welfare maximizing.
At the moment I'm working on how technological shocks affect state capacity and the provision of local public goods.
Papers on the web. I've been experimenting with what a paper can be when it isn't a PDF: figures you can change, specifications you can rebuild, estimates you can read straight off the page. I turned my MSc thesis into one of these, and I'd be glad if you had a look at the idea.
Like most of us, I've changed houses and affiliations countless times, but my heart stays put in the Italian Alps. When not researching (and doing everything that comes along with it) you can find me trekking or climbing, or one day surfing, if I ever get used to being in California :)
